一、教学内容

1．词汇（略）。

2．语法：1）继续学习do作为实义动词和助动词的用法；2）复习一般现在时描写习惯动作的用法。

二、教具

录音机；简图一张（模仿课文插图）。

三、课堂教学设计

1．复习值日生报告。

2．教师在黑板上画一个人，旁边挂上电梯的简图（也可以用粉笔画），引出本课要学的内容和部分词汇：

T： Look at this man. Whats his name? （学生可能会说出几个，如 Jim, Mr. Green, etc.）No, his name is John. He is a Canadian. Where does he live? He lives in Toronto. He lives in a tall building. He uses a lift to go up and down.

放慢语速重复两遍，板书生词，对难以猜测其含义的词教师可直接用汉语解释。

3．参照第十一、十九两课有关阅读的教学步骤，给学生6分钟时间自己阅读（本段课文不含提示共计198个词）教师板书读前提问：

1）Which floor does John live on? 2）Why doesnt he use the lift for the last three floors?

规定时限过后，引导学生回答这两个问题。如果学生应答有困难，先引导学生讨论，最后教师给出合理答案（见难点讲解5）。

讲解其余生词，反复领读，到学生初步掌握为止。

4．放课文录音，学生跟读两遍，教师讲解课文中难句（见难点讲解1～4）。

5．布置作业（本课听力训练留到下一课做）

1）练习朗读本课课文；2）抄写生词及短语；3）做练习册习题1的判断题。

四、难点讲解

1．He lives in a tall building in the city of Toronto. 他住在多伦多城中的一座高楼里。

英语中表示地点时，要由小到大排列。例如：

Jims family is from London, England. 吉姆一家来自英国伦敦。

2．He lives on the fifteenth floor. 他住在第十五层。

住在某一层，介词用on，并使用序数词。

3． There are eighteen floors in the building. 楼房中有十八层。

在上述句子中，使用了there +be的句型，表示“存在”。

第三十八课中，有这样一句：

How many floors does the building have? 这座楼共有多少层？

句中使用了动词have，表示“有”。

通常情况下，there + be与have是有区别的：其一，句式不同。there +be是一种特殊结构，主语需后置；而have (has) 前面要有主语。其二，从意义上讲，there + be表示“存在”，而have (has) 则表示“所有，拥有”。例如：

There are two children in the room. 房间里有两个孩子（表示存在）。

Mr Green has two children. 格林先生有两个孩子（表示所有）。

现在再看本课中这句与第三十八课中的一句，虽都是表明楼房有多少层，但侧重点不同，两句的主语也不同。但从意义上讲，第三十八课中的句子可以用there +be形式改写：

How many floors does the building have? =How many floors are there in the building?

然而，多数情况下，there + be与have (has) 是不能互换的。

4．He uses a lift to go up and down. 他使用电梯上上下下。

动词不定式短语 to go up and down是状语，修饰前面的句子。

up and down还可以表示“来来回回”。例如： He walks up and down. 他来回地走。

5．Why doesnt he use the lift for the last three floors? 他为什么最后三层不用电梯了呢？

对于这个特殊疑问句的回答，学生是要动脑筋的。教师设计答案时，应考虑到学生的接受能力。以下答案供参考：

1） He likes climbing, he needs some exercise.

2） He is too short. He cant reach the button!
