duction and technology was much developed then, which was reflected in the book of “Qiminyaoshu” (Key skills for ruling the people). Sheep farming was the most developed one and had profound influence on the later development of this industry. Close attention is also paid on change in agricultural structure in terms of composition of crop farming and livestock farming in the North Wei dynasty. Also discussed in the paper are the positive impacts of the livestock farming dominated agriculture on the environment such as soil and water conservation.
